Rev. Steven Toshio Yamaguchi served recently as the Dean of Students, Assistant Professor of Pastoral Theology, and Seminary Chaplain at Fuller Theological Seminary in Pasadena for 3 years. Prior to that Steve was the Executive Presbyter and Presbytery Pastor for the Presbytery of Los Ranchos for 11 years. Before that he served 15 years as Pastor of Grace Presbyterian Church in Paramount/Long Beach, a historically Japanese American congregation that came back from near death to become a vibrant, growing, multi-cultural church. He has also served churches in Tokyo, Japan, Newark, NJ, and Philadelphia, PA. Born and raised in this city, he loves Los Angeles.
Steve earned degrees from Claremont School of Theology, Princeton Theological Seminary, and Westmont College. He also studied at Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary and Harvard Divinity School. He has served the PC(USA) in many capacities in areas of theology & worship, race & culture in the church, and leadership & polity/organization. He was recently elected to the Board of Trustees of Princeton Theological Seminary and in the past has served on the boards of San Francisco Theological Seminary and Westmont College.
He is married to Alison, an athletic and artistic pediatric physical therapist, and they are proud of their two young adult daughters, Lydia and Joy, both committed to justice and goodness. They all love their faithful and obedient Flat-Coated Retriever mix, Kuma, whom Steve walks in the ocean almost every week. He also likes, music, bicycling, and fishing.
